WHEN AID MUST MOVE BEYOND FLOODS, THE SKY BECOMES THE PATHWAY

Relentless rainfall has left several regions in Sumatra isolated. Land access was severely disrupted, roads were cut off, and logistical distribution was forced to halt. Yet, the needs of affected communities could not wait. Amid this emergency situation, the sky became the only remaining open route.

Chartered aircraft for humanitarian missions arrived one by one, carrying hope along with essential supplies for flood survivors. Every process was carried out swiftly, precisely, and with safety as the top priority—because time is critical when disaster strikes.

At the airport apron, the Gapura Angkasa team had been on standby since early morning. “When land access is cut off and field conditions remain unstable, chartered aircraft become a vital channel for aid distribution,” said Mr. Sugiana, Executive General Manager of Cengkareng Cargo Gapura Angkasa. “Our role is to ensure that everything runs smoothly.”

From handling relief cargo and managing apron areas to coordinating departures, every stage was executed with meticulous attention. For the Gapura Angkasa team, this was not merely an operational task—it was a tangible contribution to supporting community recovery.

In addition, Gapura Angkasa implemented a structured mechanism for receiving and dispatching aid supplies, along with handling support and cargo distribution processes for GPL (Gapura Pragata Logistic). This mechanism was carried out systematically, starting from inbound cargo recording, cargo feasibility checks, load arrangement, and targeted distribution to affected areas.

To maximize delivery effectiveness, detailed technical coordination was conducted with the Corporate Secretary team, covering flight planning through to the management of supporting documentation.

President Director of Gapura Angkasa, Mr. Troficiendy Suroso, stated that the aid distribution process was carried out through intensive coordination among all related parties. “We have undertaken various efforts to ensure that assistance reaches affected areas despite disrupted land access. Through strong on-site collaboration, we successfully delivered the aid,” he explained.

He further emphasized that assistance had successfully arrived in several priority areas, namely:

  • BTJ (Banda Aceh)

  • PDG (Padang)

  • DTB (Sibolga/Tapanuli)

According to him, emergency conditions do not hinder the company’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts for communities affected by disasters.
