Makassar, 21 April 2026 — African carrier Ethiopian Airlines has marked a historic milestone with its inaugural flight to Makassar via Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport. The flight forms an important part of preparations for the 1446H / 2026 Hajj operations.
The presence of Ethiopian Airlines in Makassar is part of a charter flight transporting Saudi Arabian immigration officers as part of the Makkah Route initiative. This programme enables pilgrims’ immigration processes to be completed in advance at departure airports in Indonesia, allowing them to proceed directly upon arrival in Saudi Arabia without lengthy queues.
In this operation, Gapura Angkasa provides ground handling services for Ethiopian Airlines, covering passenger, baggage, and cargo handling, as well as apron coordination, with a strong emphasis on safety and on-time performance.
Gapura Angkasa’s Director of Operations, Ruli Wijaya, stated that the company’s involvement reflects its commitment to supporting smooth Hajj operations.
“We are committed to delivering the highest standards of safety and service in every aspect of ground handling. Our support for Ethiopian Airlines’ charter flights is part of our readiness to ensure the success of the 2026 Hajj operations,” he said.
This collaboration between Ethiopian Airlines and Gapura Angkasa is expected to strengthen aviation industry synergy in delivering the best possible service for Hajj pilgrims, while ensuring that all operational processes run safely, smoothly, and on schedule.
